Bogazkent: A Turkish Holiday Destination for Everyone

Bogazkent Beach

Imagine vacationing somewhere where you can experience warm sand under foot, refreshing dips in a crystal-clear water, restaurants that serve fresh grilled fish and locally-grown vegetables, activity centres where sports enthusiasts can get their fill, visiting fascinating historic sites – and all this under endless blue skies. In Bogazkent (pronounced Boh-az-kent) in the Serik district of South-Western Turkey, all of this (and more) comes conveniently located just 40 kilometres east of the well-served Antalya airport.

The Antalya district on Turkey’s ‘Turquoise Coast’ has long been a popular holiday destination, attracting sun-seekers, culture-vultures and activity lovers to its lush coastline. Famed for its 300 days of sunshine each year, it even stays warm during the winter months. However, visitors are now beginning to turn away from Antalya’s city districts and head further afield to discover their new favourite vacation spots, such as charming Boğazkent.

Renting one of our villas in Bogazkent offers visitors a chance to get away from the crowds and truly relax. Around the town there are a host of good restaurant options, where you can find mouthwatering Turkish kebabs, pide (Turkish pizza), grilled fish, traditional Turkish vegetarian dishes, and delicious desserts and ice cream. Our favourites Bogazkent restaurants include Can Restaurant, Yakamoz Restaurant and Bar, Parlak Restaurant, Pidecim Karadeniz, and Nur Pastanesi (patisserie). If you prefer to cook at home, there also supermarkets and famers markets where you can buy fresh, sustainable local produce. For more details on all of the above, please check our Bogazkent recommendations page.

For the Nature Lovers

The unspoilt sandy beach is not just an attractive option for holiday-makers, it’s also a favoured destination of sea turtles, who come ashore each summer to lay their eggs. If you’re lucky, you might see them swimming close to shore during this time. Besides the beach and warm Mediterranean Sea, there’s also the local Kuş Cenneti (bird sanctuary), which is home to over 200 different species of birds, which flock to this natural environment. A little further afield is the Kursunlu Waterfall, located within a nature park that has paths you can follow, while admiring the flora and fauna you pass.

For the Sports and Activity Lovers

If you prefer a more active holiday, you are really spoilt for choice. The area offers many outdoor activities such as horse-riding, sailing, fishing, aquapark, go-karting, white-water rafting, cycling, beach and water-sports and much more.

Hip-Notics Cable Park

Golf-lovers will love the open greens in nearby golfing destination, Belek. In particular the Robinson Nobilis course is just 1.5 kilometres from one of our villas. Set within a natural pine forest, golfers follow the curve of the Acisu River which winds its way through the course. This, along with seven lakes and tree-lined fairways make it a truly stunning Belek golf course.

If you prefer something a little more adrenaline-fuelled, you might want to pay a visit to the Hip-Notics Cable Park that is also close by. Here water-skiers and wakeboarders are pulled by a controlled cable around circuits in three different man-made lakes, perfect for curious beginners or experienced extreme-sport enthusiasts.

What to See in the Boğazkent Area

The beauty of this area is not a new discovery. In fact, it has been a coveted spot for thousands of years, and the evidence of these past civilizations is still there, open to visitors. Bogazkent is located between the impressive ruins of the ancient cities of Aspendos and Perge. Both of which date back around 3000 years and contain fascinating Greco-Roman ruins to explore. Every summer, the Aspendos theatre comes alive when it hosts the Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival – a chance to see some of the world’s best performers in a truly memorable location.

Antalya itself is also vibrant city with a charming old town located at its heart. Besides the array of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs here, there are also excellent shopping options located within the city centre and its surrounding shopping malls.
